Historic Zoar Village
Visitors to Zoar Village travel back in time to explore this 19th century German village, along the banks of the Tuscarawas River. A hardy group of 300 German Separatists built their homes and called their town Zoar, "a sanctuary from evil." Today the historic district features restored private homes, shops, B&B's, restaurants, and 12 restored living history museum buildings, owned by the Ohio Historical Society and the Zoar Community Association.
The center piece of Zoar is the 2 acre religiously significant formal garden featuring the center "tree of life." You can hike the towpath trail along the Ohio & Erie Canal from Zoar to Ft. Laurens. Zoar is open to the public for school, group, bus and individual tours through its quaint village April through October.
Zoar Village is located 3 miles east of Exit #93 just off I-77 on State Route 212, at 198 Main St., Zoar Ohio, 44697.

Group tours may be personalized to include shopping, a catered historic German style dinner or luncheon in one of our historic buildings, or personalized to include particular subjects of interest. Examples of personalized tours could include the gardening, blacksmithing, weaving and textiles of the Zoarites,and religion.
