Vintage Canton Offers Wine Tastings and More

Let me be honest about this right up front … I don’t know much of anything about wine. I know it’s grapes. I know there’s different kinds and I know some wines go better with some foods than others (but I don’t have a clue what goes with what.) So it’s sort of weird that Vintage Canton wine festival - downtown Canton, OhioVintage Canton – an event that celebrates wine – is my favorite downtown Canton event every year. This year’s event will be held on Thursday, September 20 right on Central Plaza, N. in downtown Canton.

Maybe it’s the cool vibe, the cool early-fall weather or the general genialness of all the coordinated wine drinkers assembled together sipping and tasting and sharing. Plus the great surroundings one can only experience downtown. I guess it’s all those reasons and more. In addition to the wonderful wines, there’s also a nice selection of beers in the Microbrew Garden, great live music and delicious food from wonderful downtown restaurants.

Wines this year will be from Bluebird Winery at Little Forest Inn, Brietenbach Wine Cellars, Gervasi Vineyards, and Raven’s Glenn Winery. There will also be wine offered from noted wine retailer Fishers Foods and distributors L.A. Dick, Superior Beverage and Heidelberg Distributing.

Superior will also be offering nearly a dozen beers for tasting with more yet to be announced. So while wine is definitely the focus, if beer is more your speed, you will not be disappointed by the variety of offerings available.

Since nothing goes better with wine than food, you’ll be able to enjoy tastings from Arcadia Grille, Basil Asian Bistro, Bender’s Tavern, Chocolates by Erin, Desert Inn Restaurant and newcomer Lucca Downtown.

What would a downtown event be without live music? This year’s line-up includes The Ryan Humbert Band: All Strung Out from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and The Jeff Poulos Blues Revue from 7:15 p.m. until the event’s conclusion at 9:30 p.m. The event starts at 4:30 p.m., so if you work downtown, plan to knock off a little early!

It’s best to buy your tickets early and save some money. Pre-sale tickets are $25 and available at the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, all Fishers Foods locations and online at the Chamber’s website. If you wait until the day of the event to purchase your tickets, they’re $35. Ticket prices include eight wine and/or beer tastings and a variety of cheeses from local favorites Brewster Dairy and Biery Cheese. Plus, you’ll get a nice souvenir tasting glass and a chance to win a beautiful piece of jewelry from downtown Canton’s Gasser Fine Jewelers.

Vintage Canton is one of those events people really look forward to attending every year. So if you’re already here in town and looking for something to do, or visiting the area on September 20, make sure you mark your calendar now for this great night! And buy your tickets early!

  2. Great commentary Doug. I, too, know little to nothing about wine, but this is also my favorite downtown event…..closely followed by Taste of Canton of course. Anxious to see what Basil and Lucca bring to the party!
