Team-building a Positive Experience in Canton/Stark County

In the past the words, “team-building activity”, made people roll their eyes and run the other way. There is always the fear that you would have to participate in some humiliating or uncomfortable activity. Times have changed and team-building activities have become less about playing games and more about participating in a fun activity as a team.

Team-building can increase and individual’s confidence within the group, promote the shared mission of the company, and let employees get to know each other better. Team-building activities can be a structured group activity with a final goal or something very casual that allows networking with peers.

Lots of fun and teamwork at Gervasi's cooking classes

Getting your team outdoors can add to the fun. The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, Ohio, can supply your teams with handheld GPS units to go geochaching on a high technology scavenger hunt. With 10 miles of hiking trails through old growth forest and prairies there is plenty of space for even the largest groups. The Wilderness Center also has many programs, both indoors and out, that can educate your group on nature and the plants and animals native to Ohio. You can add a delectable lunch in one of their many indoor meeting facilities or outdoor pavilions to round out the day.

Hands on activities that let you create something fabulous to eat are also very popular. The Gervasi Vineyard is a beautiful backdrop to any event. Recently opened are the Cucina (kitchen), Event Center, and Villas. The Cucina at Gervasi features a very large kitchen that was built with hands-on group cooking classes in mind. This event can be customized to your group and will include a top chef that can turn your attendees into gourmet chefs. Finish off your event with your attendees sampling the cuisine they have created and pairing it with Gervasi wines. The Villas at Gervasi offer luxuriously appointed guest rooms, and meetings can be held in the adjacent Villa Grande Conference & Event Facility.

Maize Valley Farm Market & Winery combines the relaxing setting of a rural farm with an award winning winery. Take hay rides, sit around a campfire, have a fully catered cookout. Maize Valley can also give educational tours of the vineyards to learn the agricultural aspects behind growing grapes in Ohio. After your team learns the basics of grape growing, complete the day by doing a hilltop tasting in their pavilion. From field to table, your group will be eating and drinking products from Maize Valley Farm & Winery; a great way to include a sustainability aspect to your meeting or convention.

If “health and wellness” is something your company or organization promotes, then Glenmoor Country Club gives you everything you need to build your team up and go home inspired. Choose from golf lessons with a PGA pro, Cardio Fusion or low impact yoga to name just a few options. Include a healthy lunch with a cooking demonstration by Chef Brendan Meeker and receive a recipe card to take home with you. End the day with a relaxing massage in Glenmoor’s fully equipped European spa. Glenmoor can also accommodate all your meeting needs and the attached Bertam Inn can supply overnight accommodations.
