Halloween’s history but Zombie ArtVasion is very much alive on November 2, as First Friday scares up some fun in the Canton Arts District.
Face the evening by stopping at The Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, where make-up artist Darryl Parsons will turn you from cute to creepy, before and after his full special effects demo at 7 p.m. Then let, God of Carnage, a play performed by Seat of The Pants Productions, may you squirm at Players Guild Theatre. Or, cozy up with your favorite boy or ghoul at the Canton Palace’s free flick, The Nightmare before Christmas.
Shudder with glee at the jewelry exhibit of Teri Barnes at Lynda Tuttle’s Art Center, tap your toes to the folksy feats of Yankee Bravo, and ponder the perplexity of MECHANIC/ORGANIC, the haunting new show at Translations, featuring the work of Danny Saathoff and Annette Yoho Feltes.
Cross the street to 2nd April Galerie & Studios and introduce yourself to the 20 resident artists and say “hey” to Major Lee and Brian Henke, who will be playing on site. Venture up to the Dreg Spot to celebrate the shop’s 5th Anniversary and be sure to visit Creative Ohio Gallery in their new digs on 4th Street, a block away from Journey Studios and Canton Glassworks.
Music’s brewing all night, including a full line up Buzzbin Art and Music Shop, Denny Ott at B-Side Winery, Justin Moyar at Muggwigz, and Lare Sattler at Subway.
For the little “monsters” who may have gathered more tricks than treats thanks to Frankenstorm, Canton First Friday is extending Halloween to November 2 from 6-10. Kids in costume can stop by the participating Canton Arts District locations and get their just desserts. Participating stops include: First Friday Info Center, Buzzbin, Creative Ohio, Translations, Downtown Subway, Journey Gallery (upstairs and downstairs in Second April), Sublime Studios (first floor of Second April), AMVETS, Napoli’s, Carpe Diem, Colette Wasdahl Fashion Design, Evolution Art and Arcadia Grill.
Spend $20 at an established Arts District art studio/gallery and bring your receipt to the ArtsinStark office in the District (308 4th Street) for the Buy Art Get Cash promo, and while there, have some cider, do a kids’ activity and pickup a $10 First Friday t-shirt.
Download the First Friday map and any additional details you need at www.cantonfirstfriday.com. First Friday is sponsored by Stark Community Foundation and presented by the downtown Canton Special improvement District and ArtsinStark.
