Recently my husband and I took the boys (with their bikes only) to the John Glenn portion of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail located off Rt. 21 near Navarre/Massillon. I don’t know how long that section of the overall Towpath is, but we went about a half hour down and turned around and came back.
The path is elevated above two sides of watery ground- most of which is swampy or covered in foliage and then you see the Tuscarawas River.
My eagle-eyed 6 yr. old spotted a turtle who appeared to be sun-bathing and we also saw people fishing in a boat. Numerous other bike riders or joggers passed us by. Little critters were spotted in our path or nearby at different times- chipmunks I think.
There are over 81 miles of Towpath now (and growing). Find out more about the 25 miles of Towpath located in Stark County here or the entire Ohio & Erie Canalway here. Pack a picnic lunch and take your family to the Towpath for some good outdoor exercise and fresh air! It’s free and healthy, afterall
. And remember your sunscreen and bottled water.

From John Glenn (where you started) to Wooster St. is 1.9 miles. Here is a great map of the mileages….
