Unique Wear & Share Fashion Show

Do you love fashion? Do you love reducing, reusing, and recycling? Then you’re going to fall in love this spring with a new and unique fashion show that’s sure to please fashionistas and environmentalists alike.

ystark!, a department of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, Inc. will display a wide assortment of renovated clothing, accessories, and jewelry in a charity event called Wear & Share.

Wear & Share will be held on Tuesday, April 23, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Centre Ballroom in downtown Canton’s Arts District. During the event guests will engage in a variety of opportunities, including browsing vendors, bidding on silent auction items, and enjoying a competitive fashion show; not to forget sweets and refreshments fit for any fashion queen.

The fashion show and Goodwill Challenge is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and will feature the designs of ten local fashion designers. Celebrity judge Doreen Leaf will join her fellow community judges in examining the artistic renovations made by the local designers to determine the most creative and well-crafted submissions. One designer will also walk away with the People’s Choice Award, selected by the evening’s guests.

The Goodwill Boutique will be open on-site, and guests are encouraged to use the boutique to create their own ensembles. Proceeds from the Boutique will go to Goodwill and aid in their mission to make good skills possible, and to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families.

In a time when what is ‘new’ is not always affordable, re-usability is a significant skill to learn. Re-usability saves money, conserves resources, and presents the chance to appreciate old stuff all over again. Wear & Share doubles as a charity event and a source of creative inspiration.

Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Metropolitan Centre, located at 601 Cleveland Avenue NW in downtown Canton. Tickets are $10. Parking is available at the Metropolitan Centre and Community Services of Stark County for free.

For tickets and more information, visit the events page at www.ystark.org or call (330) 458-2070.

April First Friday: Music in Me

codyEven if you can’t carry a tune, be sure to carry yourself to the Canton Arts District for April 5th First Friday, themed Music in Me. Early birds can catch the beat at 5:30 p.m. as The Brighter Side Band plays at Canton Museum of Art’s First Stop. Down the street the melody makers in the Motter & Meadows lot will include other local bands and some of your favorite Canton Idols. Across the street, the Palace opens her doors for a GREASE movie sing-along, while down the road, members of the Dover Steel Drum Band will delight you with unexpected favorites like “Sing, sing, sing,” and Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”

Wake up the night by stopping at George’s or Buzzbin for Northeast Ohio groups like Hot Ham & Cheese, Freeze-Tag and Andy Powder and the Drips. Or get your mellow on with Soft Winds Jazz at the Joseph Saxton Gallery, Jazz Expressions at Cork and Canvas, Lare Satler at Subway or Cody Martin at Colette Wasdahl Fashions

Jeff Poulos will be at Lynda Tuttle’s, Matt Basso will be on Fourth and Denny Ott will be blowing his sax right next to the rhino. Add to that, the Timken High School Band, Robert Thompson, Major Lee, Justin Moyar and East Clintwood and you know that no toe will be left untapped.

It’s Dance Night at the Auricle; Impossible Gardens at Translations and musical themed baby art plus a couple of surprise Grateful Dead pieces, inside Second April.

Kids can make instruments at ArtsinStark’s downtown office on Fourth Street, the location of the Buy Art Get Cash promo, running again this month, and encouraging shopping at the many art spaces, including Elemental Arts, Canton Glass Works and Dave’s Wood Gallery.

So, grab your pitch pipe and get ready to use your outside voice… as First Friday is ready to turn the beat around on April 5.
