Designed by Cleveland architect Willard Hirsh, Glamorgan Castle was the home of Colonel William H. Morgan and his family. Col. Morgan was the son of Morgan Engineering founder Thomas Rees Morgan and instrumental to the company's success as the first American manufacturer of overhead traveling cranes. The 50 room castle was built between 1904-05 on a 50 acre site requiring 96 train carloads of Vermont marble. It had its own power plant and included steam boilers for heating, a built-in vacuum system, elevator, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley and a system of telephones connecting the many rooms of the house. Tours are given the first weekend of Alliance's Carnation Festival. Please call 330-821-2100 for tour dates and times.
