East Canton is a small, rural community five miles east of Canton along Route 30, situated in the midst of historic Osnaburg Township. Early settlers in Osnaburg Township, one of the county's five original townships, were primarily Pennsylvania Dutch. Osnaburg, now known as East Canton, was laid out in 1806 by James Leeper. It was the second village recorded in Stark County and rivaled Canton in growth until Canton was selected as the county seat in 1808.

East Canton is also the home of two amazing golf courses, The Quarry Golf Club and Clearview Golf Course, a site on the National Register of Historic Places. The course was built in 1946 by William Powell, who encountered racial discrimination on the golf course. After returning home from World War II he decided to build his own place to play, where people of all colors would be welcomed. Today it also is the home of the Clearview Legacy Foundation, which was established to preserve the course for future generations.
