This exhibit celebrates the artistic talents of several First Ladies including: Louisa Catherine Adams, who played the harp and pianoforte and wrote numerous poems and plays; Rose Cleveland, a successful author; artists Caroline Harrison's watercolors and Ellen Wilson's oils on canvas; the musicianship of Helen Taft; Jacqueline Kennedy's poetry and delightful sketches; the dancing career of Betty Ford; and actress Nancy Davis Reagan's early MGM movie career.

The Haines House was built by one of the first settlers in the area, John Grant. His initial land grant encompassed much of what we know as the west side of Alliance. His daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Ridgeway Haines, operated a station on the Underground Railroad in the House. Their son John Columbus Haines fought in the Civil War. He and his brothers were active in the growing Alliance community through the second half of the 19th Century and founded the first Alliance City Band. The House is open for tours which describe the family’s role in the Abolitionist Movement and the Underground Railroad prior to the Civil War.

Celebrate Independence Day with the snakes of the TWC. At 10, Naturalist Carrie Elvey will lead a walk to look for snakes in the field and woods. At 11, join her for a slide show program about the snakes of Ohio, then meet a hognose and black rat snake. Come for one or both programs. Free. Dress to be off trail for the snake walk.

This display on the history of Walsh University was mounted at the Hoover Historical Center by students in the University's Museum Studies program.

The exhibit combines nostalgic pieces of the proud past of Walsh College, such as the first yearbook from 1964, with current technology reflecting the story of growth and expansion that has produced an exemplary faith-based University and a great pride to the community.  Also among several items and photographs displayed is a digital photo frame that showcases students’ recent global learning experience in Uganda and Rome.

The display also encompasses the vision of its founders, the Brothers of Christian Instruction who continue to hold a presence on campus, involved with curriculum and students’ activities.

Tours are conducted hourly, 1-4 p.m., Weds.-Sat. Advance reservations required for groups of 8 or more and available Mon.-Fri.

A pictorial display of the 'Designer Showcase' featured at the Hoover Historical Center ten years ago which brought a new Victorian elegance to the Hoover family home.Open to the public for three weeks in May, the furnishings provided by the local designers, were luxurious antiques or reproductions. The Victorian decor included new carpeting, ceiling, wall and window treatments, true to the 19th century. Many of the room elements remain at the Center and continue to provide an elegant backdrop to the displays that tell the story of the Hoover legacy featured throughout the Victorian home.

Museum tours are conducted hourly from 1-4 p.m., Weds.-Sat.

Advance reservations are required for groups of 8 or more and are available Mon.-Friday.

This stunning exhibit of floral artwork is on display at the Canton Museum of Art through September 20. The exhibit features flower-themed works by contemporary artists, selected through a juried competition sponsored by the Susan K.Black Foundation and David Wagner. A total of 1742 entries were considered, with 55 selected for this traveling exhibit.

Bush convey the occupational culture of this uniquely private yet public place. Among the broader themes addressed are issues of race and gender, the evolving nature of work at the White House, and how presidents and employees have viewed each other.
