An Evening with Judy Collins at the Canton Palace Theatre on Sept. 24

Legendary folk singer-songwriter Judy Collins brings her unique blend of interpretative folk songs and contemporary themes to the historic Canton Palace Theatre on Friday, September 24th at 8:00 p.m. This concert is sponsored by The Wilderness Center, a non-profit nature center located in southwest Stark County.Judy Collins

Judy Collins is legendary, Grammy-award winning singer whose career has spanned over 50 years with hits such as “Send in The Clowns”, “Turn, Turn, Turn” and “Both Sides Now.”

A limited number of VIP tickets will be available for the show, which includes reserved seats in the first three rows, complimentary refreshments, a copy of Judy’s new album “Paradise” and a special meet-and-greet with Ms. Collins.

The Wilderness Center teaches over 15,000 children about nature education each year and supports many free programs for families to include astronomy programs and planetarium shows, bird walks and bird banding, butterfly and snake walks, insect classes, family days and much more.

Ryan Humbert: Strung Out

Join the Ryan Humbert Band for a special concert on the historic stage of the Canton Palace Theatre, located at 605 Market Street in downtown Canton on May 8, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

Ryan HumbertThe performance is the third in the highly successful series of shows that features The Ryan Humbert Band performing in an intimate acoustic setting, joined by a string quartet led by violinist Michael Houff.

The 10-piece acoustic band will be performing Humbert’s original songs as well as covers of songs by The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Wilco, Peter Gabriel, The Pretenders and more.

“Canton and Stark County has always been home to me. I was born here and I grew up here. I’m honored to bring our acoustic string-section show to such a beautiful and historic venue like The Canton Palace,“ Humbert said.

As an added bonus to this event, Ryan Humbert & Emily Bates will have copies of their new CD “Tell Me What You See” for sale for the first time. A special after party will be held at The Brownstone Steakhouse (located directly next door to the Canton Palace Theatre) immediately following the show.

A special preview of the show will happen the night before the concert during Canton’s First Friday. Ryan and members of the Strung Out band will perform the first ever “First Friday Rooftop Concert” on top of Primo’s Restaurant, located on the corner of 4th and Court Street in downtown Canton. This special performance begins at 8:00 PM.

19th Annual Battle of Magicians Comes to Canton May 1st and 2nd!

It’s fun time again in Canton, Ohio as the “Battle of Magicians” 19th Annual Magic, Comedy and Illusion Show takes the stage at the Canton Palace Theatre. This year’s show promises to be one of the best ever with some of the most exciting and hilarious acts in the world. With performances on Saturday, May 1 at 8:00 P.M. and Sunday, May 2 at 2:00 P.M. One of six acts, Jeff Hobson is known as the Hilarious Host of Las Vegas. Jeff is one of the most in-demand comedy magicians working today. His refreshing and clever mix of comedy and magic has taken him around the world. His television appearances include HBO, Showtime’s Comedy Club Network, Fox Family’s Masters of Illusion, and NBC’s World’s Greatest Magic. His appearances in Las Vegas include Bally’s Casino, Harrah’s, Caesars, Flamingo, Aladdin, Excalibur, and the Sahara, and are thrilled to have him in Canton, Ohio where he will present his hilarious act and MC the ‘Big Headliner Show’ at the Palace Theatre.

Woody Pittman is a full time comedy magician from Hollywood. He has been staying busy for the past 14 years in venues such as the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, comedy clubs, corporate events and is most times found out to sea with his extensive cruise ship schedule. His experience on stage allows him to ad-lib with his audiences and that makes his act a hoot. With an endearing dead pan delivery he charms his audience with a mixture of jokes and sleight-of-hand. Woody draws on audience sympathy as he performs tricks that when they finally work surprise even him.

Tim Wright’s (a.k.a. Skilldini) stage presence and enthusiasm have escalated him to one of the most sought after magicians in the country. He has appeared on HBO, NBC’s Real People and the Wonderful World of Wizards. A Chavez graduate, Tim is the winner of many awards including, the “French Lick Grand Champion” , and the “Bill Baird Neil Foster Manipulation Award”. Tim is adept in performing all phases of magic from close-up to street magic but is best known for his unique and original silent act reminiscent of the old clowns featuring ‘Skilldini’ who is “too big to fail.” Tim is a regular performer and member of Hollywood’s Magic Castle and has opened for the Amazing Johnathan at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.

Simultaneously intelligent and wacky, Billy Bob Steinberg’s show draws on his background in stand-up and musical comedy theatre, circus arts and magic. His spontaneity and showmanship create a full speed ahead act that will leave you laughing uncontrollably. His list of performing credits goes on and on…Andy Warhol; Mick Jagger; John Lennon; Van Halen; Deep Purple; Merv Griffin; and Ed McMahan. Canton Ballet Presents The Wizard of Oz

Reminisce with Dorothy, her beloved Toto and Yellow Brick Road friends Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion as they dance their way to the Emerald City of Oz in search of the wonderful Wizard.

Canton Ballet will present its fantastic full length version of The Wizard of Oz in two matinee performances Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21, at the Canton Palace Theatre under the artistic direction of Cassandra Crowley. Performance times are 2:00 p.m.

Destined to become one of Canton Ballet’s family favorites, The Wizard of Oz premiered in 2001 to sellout audiences. With 80-plus roles Canton Ballet’s Wizard is a sizeable production, almost as large as the ballet’s Nutcracker.

Enjoy the Sound of 16 Pianists on One Stage!

The Malone University School of Arts and Sciences – Department of Music will present Grand Piano Extravaganza VII: A Grand Finale Saturday, February 20, at 8 p.m. at the historic Palace Theatre in downtown Canton.

Dr. W. Robert Morrison, of Canton, an organist at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, will offer pre-concert music on the Palace Theatre’s Kilgen pipe organ beginning at 7:30 p.m. Serving as master of ceremonies will be Rod Carnes.
