Shine on for the November 6, 2009 First Friday with another polished evening of Canton Arts District fun and fall festivity, as the party moves inside with music, dance, and new art.
Market Avenue locations will feature original art by Erin Mulligan (Julz, 220 Market Ave. N.); Photography by JW Cooper and Irish folk music by Becky Daly at Carpe Diem ( 215 Market Ave. N.); the Little Chicago Band playing at Customer Appreciation Night at A Cobbler (213 Market Ave.) and face-painting at the Red Cross ( 525 Market Ave. N.). Also in the Cultural Center, the Players Guild Theatre is having a family-friendly sock hop from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a special $1 admission, live performances of 1950’s songs as well as hula hoop and bubble-blowing contests.

Down the block at 2nd April Galerie & Studios (309 Cleveland Avenue N), the juried show, “Sensory Feast,” will be featured along with “A Small Exhibit of Small Works by Big Artists.” The Dreg Spot will be offering 30% discounts upstairs, while upstairs in the Annex, AGoG Teen Gallery will be hosting Acoustic Youth Night from 6:30 p.m.– 9:30 p.m. Lower level fun begins at 8:00 p.m. with the Poetry Showcase and Contest in the Kathleen Howland Theatre.
Kids will enjoy an Indian corn craft, sponsored by Illuminarts at Zephyr Wind Art (337 Cleveland Ave. N.), where everyone can enjoy a 20% discount on all purchases. And no Harvest Moon festival would be complete without music. The Metropolitan Center Ballroom (corner of 6th and Cleveland) offers Blue Lunch with swing lessons offered from 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and dancing afterward. Note: There is a charge for the lessons and dance. I recently read about Irish singer Becky Daly and would really like to catch her singing somewhere. In searching the internet I see she will be at Carpe Diem for your First Friday, shown as 6 November. The problem I have is that on my calendar the first friday in November is the 5th. So if I want to see her do I go there on Friday or on the 6th?

Hi David,
This article is actually an older blog post for the November 2009 First Friday. I did find that she has a Facebook page for her music which you can see at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Becky-Daly/112559278799475
Hope that helps!
